Driving: Is it really worth it?

We recently purchased a 2006 Scion xA and while I love the car I once again find myself wondering how much I really enjoy car ownership.  After having my previous car stolen and then smashed and totalled by a drunk driver (along with four other cars no less), I was the victim of a highway hit and run in an uninsured rental car.  Well at least bad things come in threes, right?  If only…  Apprently, they come in quantities greater than or equal to seven.  The very night I bought the car I manuvered into a parking space only to hear a pssssssssss sound as a tire rapidly deflated.  It only gets better :).  While away at a wedding that was already outrageously expensive to begin with, the new Scion was towed and ticketed!  It was towed because a sign went up just after I parked it on Hayes, which would have informed me to move it or lose it had they posted the sign at the proper time (72 hours before the event).  It was ticketed because the front license plate had fallen off and the officer decided to add insult to injury.  How do cars liberate us again?
